Man charged in attempted murder of cop; denied bond
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (10mile.com) — Three men appeared in bond court late Sunday morning, charged in connection to the shooting of a Lowcountry police officer.
Just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, Charleston County EMS transported a North Charleston officer to MUSC, after he was shot.
According to North Charleston Police spokesman Spencer Pryor, the incident started when police responded to a theft off South Allen Drive. That’s where officers spoke with a victim, who gave them the description of a suspect.
Then, an officer near the El Cheapo convenience store at Dorchester Road and South Allen saw a man that fit the suspect’s physical description. While the officer, Patrolman David Winslette, attempted to stop the man, he refused and walked away. According to court documents, while walking away the man turned toward Winslette and fired four rounds.
“One of the bullets hit the officer’s bullet proof vest and the other hit the officer in the knee area,” Pryor said.
According to police, the accused shooter identified as Timothy Darrell Johnson and two other men; Creiton Antonio Patterson and Dontreia Antwon Durant, all left the scene.
Winslette was transported to MUSC where he was treated for the gun shot wound to his knee. As of Sunday morning, he was still recovering at MUSC, in stable but good condition.

“Winslette, a former Berkeley County Sheriff Deputy, began his career with the North Charleston Police Department in December 2010,” Pryor said.
Shortly before 6 p.m. on Saturday, the three suspects in the shooting were arrested at a home off Barony Park Circle.
Johnson is facing a number of charges including: the attempted murder of a police officer, possession of a stolen firearm, and resisting arrest. Patterson and Durant are both charged with accessory after the fact of the attempted murder of a police officer.
Investigators have confirmed that Johnson was not involved in the theft officers initially responded to on South Allen Drive.
During a bond hearing on Sunday, Johnson was granted no bond on his attempted murder charge. Patterson and Durant were each given $200,000 bonds on their accessory charges.
All three men are in custody at the Charleston County Detention Center.
